Leaders owe teams coaching, staffing and strategic context, not feature lists.
Three takeaways for AI PMs
- Coaching is the manager's day job
- Give context before you give objectives
- Assign problems, not solutions, and mean it: Team objectives should state the outcome to change and leave the solution open.
Do this Monday
- In your next 1:1 with your manager or report, spend the first fifteen minutes on one skill to develop this quarter, and write it down.
- Before the next planning cycle, write the strategic context on one page (vision, the three insights the strategy rests on, and the AI posture) and circulate it before objectives are set.
- At the next objective review, rewrite any objective that names a solution so that it names the outcome instead, and ask the team what they would do with the freedom.
