Obviously Awesome by April Dunford
Position against the real alternatives, lead with what only you do, pick the category last.
Three takeaways for AI PMs
- Start with what you have to beat
- Turn capabilities into so-what value, then stop at two or three themes
- Pick the category last, and test it against the interface dissolving: The category is the context that makes your value obvious to your best-fit customers.
Do this Monday
- Before your next roadmap review, write one sentence beginning "If we didn't exist" for your top segment, and make sure the answer names the general-purpose assistant they already have open.
- In your next messaging discussion, rewrite your three biggest feature claims as value a buyer would pay for, then cut the list to two themes.
- Before the next launch, run the ten-times test on the category name on your landing page: if the model underneath improved ten times, would the page still describe a product worth paying for?
